“…Transform by the magical, phenomenal occasion…”
“…marks as the most modern and magnificent show the SEA Games has ever witnessed…”
-SEA Games 2007 Promotional Video
Thursday morning, December the 6th, I was so eager to get home early to watch the live broadcast of the Opening Ceremony of the 24th Southeast Asian Games in Thailand. According to the various promotional videos that has been scattered all throughout the internet, it will be the best SEA Games opening ceremony the region will ever witness.
And because of the fact that Thailand is rejoicing for the birthday of their King Bhumibol, and that they even constructed a new stadium for it, I was convinced that this might really be better than the previous SEA Games openings.
I was wrong. The great enthusiasm and the excitement I felt immediately disappeared when I heard the woman commentator talk in cat-language. I mean, her voice really wasn’t commentator material.
What I hated most about the ceremony was the celebration itself. It looked like the King’s (in fact he wasn’t there himself) birthday party. Everything was made just for the King. The SEA Games spirit was put aside. The segment, “The Amazing Great King” really was an insult to us. I mean, even Queen Elizabeth II never wanted a show about her in the Commonwealth Games! They should’ve thought that Bhumibol Adulyadej was not the King of Southeast Asia!
Another thing that disappointed me was the dominant Thai language. They didn’t even think that it was broadcasted on every part of Southeast Asia. The athlete’s oath was recited in Thai. How can other athletes take oath when they can’t even understand a thing? Even the speeches were in Thai. They should even have hired an interpreter or something! I was so sorry for the athletes of the other countries who were stupidly applauding after every Thai speech. Pity!
The most irritating of all is the fact that many SEA Games fans tuned in all day just to catch the “spectacular” show and eventually seeing a P.E. Ground Demo. There’s not much action. The dancers were so stupid. It was a total chaos! Even the lightings were bad. No one can see a thing!
If you visit the 24th SEA Games official website, you might say that this really is an all-Thai sporting event! Every news were about Thailand winning this and winning that! Hey Thai dudes, we’re here! Can’t you see us? We’re competing against you!
May the next SEA Games host (presumably Laos) learn from this grave mistake. Almost all SEA Games edition were not that perfect but never have they forgotten to show the real spirit of the games. We are brothers and let’s not forget that our differences bind us together.
Let’s not forget as well that opinions ought to be respected so I take no offense to Thailand. Let’s work together and make this world a better place. ^_^

Its a rainy day Thursday here in the Philippines when the whole stupid thing happened. The overly desperate “Senator” Antonio Trillanes IV launched his first walking career in Makati.
I was really disappointed with this poor guy. Even during the elections, he was very desperate to call for a vote. And luckily for him, the morons were convinced. But doing it the second time is totally outrageous. He caused terror on the whole country. Can someone just shoot him straight in the face?
What made things worse are the media. According to the AFP, the television networks were advised to pull out their men on the site. Yet, the glory-hungry reporters were deaf. We understand what they fight and stand for. PUBLIC SERVICE! But hey! I know what you really want! You just want to take the glory first before your “public service.” These mediamen just wanted to race in on the news and boast words like “we were the first on the scene” and “una sa balita”, get a life!
You’re ruining our country. You’re news are tabloid-ish! You don’t educate people but you give them opinions! Is that transparent journalism? IS THAT WHAT YOU CALL RESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM??!!
And for Trillanes, is he a senator or not? He should help build this country and not take over with it. You’re so ambitious! You don’t even know what you’re doing!
If I’m the owner of the Peninsula, I would’ve slapped him hard on the face. Look at it now. Its not that elegant anymore. Good thing the people were too lazy to come to Makati or maybe, they realized that Trillanes never really deserved their vote.
This foolish act in the middle of the Business District made us look so unstable. According to Carlos Celdran, The presence of the media aggravated the Trillanes crisis and travesty and that their reactions about being taken into custody were overblown. So we call for the media to please set aside your opinions and do your job. Be responsible and don’t be superior to the law.
C’mon guys. Let’s help each other.
